Danny Welbeck gave his assessment of the Manchester United performance against his Brighton side, which will be reassuring to Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United triumphed 4-2 over Brighton to secure their third consecutive Premier League win. Brighton controlled the early stages, but United gained momentum after Matheus Cunha’s stunning first goal for the club.
Casemiro doubled United’s lead with a deflected shot from outside the box just before the break. In the second half, Bryan Mbeumo added a third, finishing clinically after a brilliant ball by Benjamin Šeško.
Brighton fought back with a brilliant free-kick from ex-Manchester United man, Danny Welbeck, marking his fifth goal in four games. They pulled another one back late in injury time thanks to Charalampos Kostoulas.
However, United sealed the win when Mbeumo finished off a brilliant assist from Bruno Fernandes in stoppage time. The Red Devils held firm to claim a vital three points.
Welbeck praises this Man Utd side
Brighton, in recent history, has been a side that United have seemed to struggle against, with today being only the second win for the Red Devils against the Seagulls in their last eight league meetings. Welbeck himself has often been on the score sheet, as he was today.
United controlled the large majority of the match and limited not just opportunities for the away side, but also disrupted their key strength, which was their ability to play fluid possession football.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Welbeck said: “It is the best [Man Utd] side we have faced in a while. They were really organised and structured, they always have incredible players, and today they really punished our mistakes. A difficult game, but one we can look back and analyse. I do believe we can come here and get the three points.”
The home side showing resilience to take all three points will be something that will come to the delight of Rúben Amorim.
Can Man Utd keep this up against Forest?
Amorim’s side has overcome three big challenges that could have easily ramped up the pressure on him had United lost any of those games. However, especially against Brighton and Liverpool, the club have come up against sides that like to take the game to the opposition, which allowed United to sit back at times.
The game against Nottingham Forest will be a new and interesting test for this team.

Following the dismal start to the season under Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche has been brought in and already has the team looking more solid at the back.
United have scored many goals playing through fast attacks and transitions. Now they will be posed a new challenge of having much more of the ball and having to break down a side which had one of the best defences of the league last season.
