“They think…” – Manchester United players have one clear belief about Benjamin Sesko deal after Rasmus Højlund admission

Manchester United’s players have one clear belief about the club potentially signing Benjamin Sesko this summer as a new striker.

Manchester United have identified RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as a key target as they look to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad this summer.

The Reds have already secured the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both proven attacking threats, but the duo are expected to play as No.10s in Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, leaving space for a new out-and-out striker.

With Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling to make a consistent impact, Sesko has emerged as United’s top choice. The 22-year-old enjoyed a standout season with 21 goals and six assists, further enhancing his reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young forwards.

United’s pursuit is partly down to Christopher Vivell, formerly of the Red Bull group, who is now the head of recruitment at Old Trafford, with formal negotiations with Leipzig already underway.

Multiple reports now suggest Sesko is the leading candidate for the role at United, and a deal appears to be gathering momentum.

United players have one clear belief about Sesko

Sesko is not the finished article but has been considered as one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe over recent years.

According to the latest information from Ben Jacobs, speaking on the United Stand YouTube channel, Sesko has been in contact with multiple United players.

It was explained that those players believe that he would be a ‘perfect’ fit for Amorim’s system.

Sesko has often played in a front two at Leipzig but he would operate as a lone striker at Old Trafford and there would be an emphasis on him running the channels and stretching the defence more often.

It is not only clear that United’s higher-ups believe that he is suited to this adjustment, but players within the squad have the exact same feelings too.

Højlund welcomes Sesko competition

Højlund managed to respond quite well after the Sesko news broke. He scored twice in the 4-1 win over Bournemouth and provided a solid overall display.

The Danish striker has experienced a lot of criticism over the last year and his form has led to doubts over his ability.

But the player himself is open to the possibility of another striker like Sesko joining the club and welcomes the challenge of more competition.

“I think the most important thing for me is just to keep working hard and stay focused and then obviously we’ll see what happens,” Højlund told journalists.

“I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens.”

“Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me. I’m more than ready. I’m feeling sharp so I’m welcoming everything that comes. I think it’s good with competition and it only sharpens the team.”
