“The desire…” – Douglas Luiz breaks silence on Juventus future after Manchester United swap deal rumours

Despite being linked with a move to Manchester United, Serie A midfielder insisted that he is ‘totally focused’ on his current side and doesn’t desire a move.

Manchester United are set to completely revamp their squad in the summer, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS intending to offload several players to clear room for new additions.

United will aim to sign players for all over the pitch, with there not being any positions safe from the overhaul. One position in particular that could be set for a lot of movement in the summer is central midfield.

The futures of Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, and Kobbie Mainoo look to still be in the air, which could leave the midfield looking extremely thin.

This has caused a wide variety of rumours, with one rumour being for Douglas Luiz to make a return to the Premier League.

Luiz wants to stay at Juventus

Luiz was recently linked with a swap-deal that could see him move to Old Trafford, with Rasmus Hojlund going the other way. The Brazilian has now also been rumoured with a return to Aston Villa.

In response to criticism over comments he made about his former club, the 27-year-old took to Instagram to say: “You must not confuse nostalgia with the desire to return. I love Juventus, and I’m totally focused on our goals.”

Despite this, Tuttosport report that Luiz’s future ‘remains up in the air’ with numerous Premier League clubs being interested in the South American’s signature.

A turbulent campaign for Luiz has came as a surprise to many, as people assumed he would hit the ground running in Turin after his £42m transfer last summer.

United will look elsewhere to bolster midfield

Despite Luiz’s quotes being about a return to Villa, it is evident that he isn’t keen about a return to England, and he seems set to focus on his current club for the foreseeable.

This means that Ruben Amorim’s side will have to look elsewhere for their midfield reinforcements, with there not being any clear frontrunners as of yet.

A lot of United’s summer busy will be highly dependent on whether they are successful in their Europa League final on 21 May, as Champions League football would be key to attracting players of the upper echelon.
