“The best one…” – Ruben Amorim highlights incredible impact of one Man Utd star vs Bode/Glimt
Ruben Amorim has highlighted the incredible impact of one Manchester United star in their Europa League win over Bode/Glimt.
Ruben Amorim celebrated his first victory as Manchester United’s head coach with a hard-fought win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
Leading the team at Old Trafford for the first time, Amorim saw Alejandro Garnacho open the scoring within the first minute, capitalising on excellent pressing by Rasmus Højlund.
Despite the early advantage, United found themselves trailing by the 25th minute after two quick goals from the visitors. However, Højlund equalised just before halftime with a brilliant touch and finish.
In the second half, Højlund struck again, netting his second of the night to reclaim the lead for United. The goal came after a slick passing exchange between Mason Mount and Manuel Ugarte, with Ugarte delivering the decisive assist.
Bodo/Glimt pressed relentlessly for an equalizer, but André Onana’s exceptional saves in the closing moments ensured United secured their second Europa League win of the season.
Amorim praises Bruno Fernandes impact
Amorim decided to start with Bruno Fernandes alongside Ugarte in the midfield two, which surprised some fans.
However, the decision to play the 30-year-old deeper ended up being a masterstroke from the head coach, with Fernandes running things in possession for United in the game.
Amorim explains that he felt the club captain was the right man to set the tempo in the midfield in this game, while also highlighting the range of passing which could help expose the opposition’s narrow shape.
“You can feel it that he’s the most experienced player, the tempo… sometimes we start the play and Bruno is the right man to start with the tempo of the play,” Amorim told TNT Sports.
“Then they play with the back four, they close really inside and we try to switch play all the time and Bruno is the best one doing that.
“That’s why. I think he is a midfielder. In this game, you see Mason Mount always with his back for the goal, and Bruno, it is better with the ball in front.”
We can see the idea
Amorim guaranteed supporters that they’d be able to see an idea in these opening games, and he wasn’t wrong.
While there are still clear concerns which he will know that he needs to address, the 39-year-old has already placed his stamp on this team.
The pressing and attacking patterns were both highlights from the game, which United ended up deservedly winning.
