Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has sung the praises of a player following last night’s West Ham fixture.
Manchester United travelled to East London on Wednesday night to face an improved West Ham side, who had four out of five coming into the Premier League fixture.
The game ended 1-1, with star man Benjamin Šeško saving the day with an injury-time equaliser after the Reds struggled to break down a disciplined West Ham defence.
Michael Carrick’s side will be disappointed to come away with just a point, considering United had won four in four games and were unbeaten in the league since Christmas.
Despite a lacklustre performance, Carrick has highlighted one man as a shining light, saying, “That’s what he does.”
Carrick praises Šeško’s performance
In a post-match press conference following the draw to West Ham, Carrick sang the praises of star striker Šeško, explaining how he is becoming a proven Premier League star.
TNT showed Carrick saying the following about the bagsman. “It’s an unbelievable finish from that angle, to kind of generate that, to get that on target, to finish it. It’s some goal from him and he’s capable of that… That’s what he does.”
Šeško came on in the 69th minute for Matheus Cunha, who struggled to get the best of former Red Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
When it looked like the Hammers would take all three points, Šeško arrived late in the box and got a crucial touch to guide the ball into the top right corner, beating Mads Hermansen, who had an almost perfect game.
Despite signing under former manager Ruben Amorim, Šeško has found form after his departure, scoring five in six games, and is now pushing for a start over Bryan Mbeumo.
Carrick has emphasised the Slovenian striker’s impact on the squad, saying this as well, “It’s not as if he burst onto the scene, he’s proven that he can score goals.”
Carrick not disappointed with draw
Despite the feeling from fans that United should have taken all three points on Wednesday, Carrick has been quick to suggest that it’s not the end of the line.
“I think in the grand scheme of things, a point is something we can take, and we can dust ourselves off a bit, assess it, and to take these games over a five-game period, I think one draw in there is a big positive.”

Carrick and his side mustn’t dwell on this result too much; the Reds have an important game against Everton on Monday, and need a result to stay in contention for a Champions League place.
Leny Yoro, Senne Lammens and Kobbie Mainoo were impressive last night. Particularly, Yoro, who prevented two goals late in the game, to give the Reds a fighting chance at a point.
