“That is special” – What Senne Lammens said about Manchester United interest amid André Onana replacement claims

Manchester United are reportedly considering signing Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens this summer amid an injury to André Onana.

Manchester United are reportedly in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer as Rúben Amorim continues reshaping his squad ahead of his first full season in charge.

Despite a strong working relationship between Amorim and André Onana, as exclusively revealed by UtdDistrict, the goalkeeper’s long-term future remains uncertain.

Onana, 29, has shown flashes of the form that earned him a move from Inter Milan, but inconsistent performances have raised doubts about his long-term role at the club.

Following the £62.5 million signing of Matheus Cunha and continued efforts to land Bryan Mbeumo for a similar fee, Amorim is now targeting a new goalkeeper in the coming weeks.

With Onana sidelined by a hamstring injury that will rule him out of pre-season—and possibly the start of the Premier League campaign—and Altay Bayındır expected to depart, United are in urgent need of reinforcements between the posts.

Lammens wants to play in the Premier League

United have been linked with Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens since the turn of the year, with the 23-year-old reportedly on a three-man replacement list if Onana were to depart.

Lammens addressed the first time he heard United were interested in him earlier this year, explaining he felt it was “special” news to hear and that he feels he would suit Premier League football

“The first time I heard it, I thought: wow, immediately a world team that follows you. That is special. Of course, I was also asked about it a lot, and when I made a save in training,” he told Belgian media back in February.

“Those top clubs have so many scouts and follow so many players.  So it doesn’t have to mean anything yet.  It will only become clear in the summer whether anything will come of it. But of course, it is only positive.

“Especially because it is about the best competition in the world and my profile – my stature and way of playing – is suitable for English football. You have to physically hold your own there, and that suits me.

“I do follow the teams that follow you a bit. But it’s not like I’m watching full matches. Summaries are enough.”

Lammens is available for a move this summer

With the Belgian clearly ready to take the next step, Antwerp sporting director Marc Overmars recently admitted that they know Lammens has to leave the club this summer, as they have already signed his replacement goalkeeper.

“The transfer of Senne Lammens has to happen, because we’ve already signed his replacement,” Overmars explained to the Belgian press.

We’d rather not see a Butez-Lammens scenario again. Senne is our most sought-after player. There are plenty of clubs ready to make a move.”

Elsewhere, it has been mentioned that Lammens would be available for a fee of approximately £17 million, which would be a steal for one of the most promising young goalkeepers in Europe.
