Former Manchester United striker has sent a brutal message to Sir Jim Ratcliffe after his latest move as the club’s co-owner.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team took charge at Manchester United towards the beginning of last year and have since made some unpopular decisions.
They have banished several staff perks, including Christmas bonuses, while also increasing the ticket prices for fans at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, high-profile errors – such as extending Erik ten Hag’s contract in the summer, only to sack him nine days into the new season, or dismissing Dan Ashworth less than six months after prying him away from Newcastle – have been heavily scrutinised.
United planning 100 more redundancies
However, perhaps the most controversial move Ratcliffe and his team have made since joining the club has been their tear-down of the United workforce.
Over 250 staff members have already been made redundant as part of a cost-saving measure under Ratcliffe. Many of those people had long histories at the club.
Now, it has been reported that there are expected to be even more cuts to the staff at United, with over 100 more people losing their jobs.
It has been reported by The Times that club staff have been left stunned by the “brutal” dismissal of Jackie Kay, the long-serving head of team operations at United.
Kay came from a United-supporting family and started working for the club in 1995, initially as David Gill’s executive assistant.
Sheringham slams Ratcliffe for United dismissals
Many players and managers have previously spoken about the family feel at Old Trafford and that feels like it is slowly being stripped away under INEOS.
That is the feeling of ex-striker Teddy Sheringham as well who does not see the benefits of ridding the club of these “important” people.
“All those people that he’s made the cuts on, they’re all important kinds of people, most of them, lots of them are on minimum wage,” began Sheringham while speaking to finaria.it.
“It’s all those people around the club that make the club feel homely, all those little members of staff that don’t get a lot of money but they’re around that love the club, that make people feel welcome when they come into the club.
“All those players, all those wives and girlfriends or families that come into the football club, these people serve them and they’ve all been discarded.
“Football is not like any other business. You need those people around the football club. I’m not really sure what you’re gaining by doing it to be honest, especially when you consider the money the club makes or what certain players are getting on a weekly basis.”
This all comes shortly after it was confirmed by New Zealand Rugby that they are going to sue Ratcliffe’s company after a failed sponsorship payment.
INEOS responded to the claims in a statement where they said withdrawal as the performance partner of the All Blacks came as a “cost-saving measure” for the business.
