Manchester United will continue with the rotation as Erik ten Hag’s men host a struggling Everton side in the third round of the FA Cup.

It’s been a fruitful start for the Old Trafford club since the return of domestic football — four wins from four and have helped United climb up the foot of the table to fourth, joint on points with Newcastle United and have a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie with Charlton Athletic awaiting.

Ten Hag’s side will undoubtedly be the favourites going into the fixture, not just because of their form but the state of the opposition. Everton, under Frank Lampard, have been a team in a constant stop-star rhythm, and right now they’ve completely stopped, both mentally and physically. They are sitting 18th in the table and have not won in their last seven.

Once again, United will be without Jadon Sancho. The winger has been seen arriving at Carrington after undergoing personalised training, but it’s clear he is not ready to be back in the first-team set-up.

Donny van de Beek will also be missing due to a severe injury against Bournemouth, although a final say on the length of his injury is yet to be confirmed. Anthony Martial was taken down the tunnel early in the previous game against Bournemouth with a supposed knock, but the expectation is that the injury will be less severe.

Ten Hag confirmed in his press conference that although Martial will be available in some capacity, he will likely not be able to play a full 90 minutes.

Any potential concerns about the availability of Antony, who missed the game against Bournemouth, will be eased after he was pictured in training the day after.

The returns of Lisandro Martínez and Diogo Dalot as late substitutions against Bournemouth will be a pleasant sight for United fans after the pair’s respective involvement at the World Cup.

Scott McTominay has seemingly recovered from illness and will no doubt hope to feature against Everton.

Ten Hag will rack up the changes on Friday night; whether returning players looking to build back up their fitness or squad players with a point to prove, there will be a mixture.

Everton team news

On the other hand, Everton will be looking to welcome back a key duo Amadou Onana and Anthony Gordon, with the former back from his suspension and the latter recovered from illness.

Returning old boys James Garner and Michael Keane will be hoping to start for the Everton team after being side-lined with injuries.

Frank Lampard will be expected to name a strong starting XI, with his position as a manager at a shallow point and positive results being necessary.
