Raphaël Varane joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in August 2021 for an initial fee of £34 million. Over three seasons, he made 95 appearances, scoring twice, and played a key role in United’s EFL Cup win in 2023 and FA Cup triumph in 2024.
Persistent injuries limited his availability, and after a brief stint at Como in Italy—cut short by a knee injury—Varane retired from professional football in September 2024 at age 31. He is still well-loved by fans at Old Trafford.
