Sweden’s manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has given his verdict on Viktor Gyokeres’ future amid links to reunite with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.
Manchester United have endured significant goal-scoring difficulties this season, netting just 37 times in 29 Premier League matches.
Their attacking struggles are evident, with Rasmus Højlund’s experiencing a 22-game goalless run before netting against Leicester City last week.
The rest of the attacking unit are not helping much either, with Bruno Fernandes being the only reliable threat in the final third for the team.
Given their lack of firepower, it comes as little surprise that multiple reports suggest the club intends to invest in a new striker during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Sweden boss gives Gyokeres to United transfer verdict
One of the main names being linked to the club is Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres, who excelled under Amorim’s leadership in Portugal.
Currently on international duty with Sweden, the prospect of Gyokeres moving clubs this summer was brought up to national team boss Jon Dahl Tomasson.
Amidst the rumours surrounding a transfer to United, Tomasson believes that a Premier League move would be “fantastic” for his star striker.
“Gyokeres would be fantastic in the Premier League,” the 48-year-old told the Mirror ahead of their clash against Northern Ireland.
“He could play for any club in the world and he would score a lot of goals anywhere. Him and Isak are two quite different players, but they’re both world-class strikers.”
Gyokeres stats under Amorim are unbelievable
So far this season, Gyokeres has scored 40 goals and registered 10 assists in 41 games. Six of those goals came in the Champions League.
After emerging as a bright spark for Coventry City, the Swedish centre-forward took the next steps in his career after moving to Sporting in 2023.

Working under Amorim, Gyokeres’ numbers were unbelievable. He made 68 appearances under the Portuguese manager, scoring 66 goals and registering 23 assists in that time.
It would be no surprise if United move forward with their interest in the 26-year-old, who would certainly help solve the goalscoring issues experienced at Old Trafford in recent months.
