Diego Leon has been settling into life at Manchester United on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States over the last few weeks.
Manchester United officially signed Diego Leon from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño earlier this summer after initially reaching an agreement with the player in January.
Leon, 18, immediately joined the pre-season under Ruben Amorim where he impressed enough to be selected on the tour of the United States.
Playing as a left wingback, the South American has appeared in all three friendlies so far and registered his first assist in the 4-1 win over Bournemouth midweek.
After being thrown into life with the United first-team, Leon has conducted his first interview with club media this week and spoken about one thing that has surprised him so far.
Leon surprised by crazy pre-season experience
For young players at United, it is always an eye-opening experience heading out on tour with the first-team and realising how far the club’s support stretches across the world.
That happens for players who have been at the club all of their life so it is undoubtedly going to be even more impactful for fresh faces like Leon.
Speaking about his experiences so far, Leon has admitted that he was surprised to hear the sound of full stadiums for these pre-season clashes.
“It’s incredible,” the teenager when asked about the tour. “I am really enjoying being here with team-mates and learning a lot of things.
“It’s the first time I have had friendlies like this. I thought it was going to be the stadium half-empty before entering the pitch but then, I hear a sound that surprised me! The stadium is full, the fans. It’s all crazy.”
Leon learning from teammates and coaches
Leon is already showing his talents for United but it is also clear that the young defender has many things to work on within his game.
Being in and around the first-team, both on tour and when they return to Manchester, is hugely beneficial and Leon will be learning things from his new teammates and coaches.
“I talk with almost all of the players and they advise me, both on the pitch and personally,” Leon added. “And the coaches are also teaching me a lot of things to be able to better polish my game.”
It looks like United’s new no.30 will be the backup to Patrick Dorgu heading into the new season and he will surely be excited to play at a packed Old Trafford for the very first time soon.
