Special Benjamin Šeško quality is “all we ever hear about”, says Man Utd journalist

Benjamin Šeško holds a special quality that has positively impacted his game and put him a level above fellow teammates.

Benjamin Šeško joined Manchester United in August for a reported £74million from RB Leipzig in Germany. The Slovenian international’s debut came on the first game of the season against Arsenal, where he came on as a substitute.

Since then Sesko has scored six goals in all competitions for United including a brace against Burnley and the winner against Fulham last Sunday. Since Micheal Carrick’s arrival the striker has struggled to get minutes, playing just 25 minutes across Carrick’s three games.

United have rotated their forward options with Carrick opting for summer signing, Bryan Mbeumo, against Arsenal and Manchester City. The Cameroon international is in top form, scoring against both clubs.

Joshua Zirkzee has also fallen to the bench as of late and has failed to make an appearance in Carrick’s opening games. A January move away for the striker was heavily rumoured but no deals were made before the deadline.

Sesko’s great ‘work ethic’ has boosted United career

Sesko has shown his dedication to the club throughout the start of his United career. The Athletic’s, Mark Critchley, spoke on how his work ethic has boosted him, making him a fan favourite.

Critchley said on the Talk of the Devils podcast, “One thing we know about Sesko is how hard he works, it’s all we ever hear about how he’s in the gym longer than everybody else and all the preparation he puts into his mentality and the work he does meditating.”

Sesko’s hard work, despite not being able to consistently start for United, sets an example for his fellow teammates, especially the academy players who are looking to break into the lineup for the first time.

Eighteen-year-old star, Shea Lacey, is amongst the academy players who will be looking up to Sesko’s example as he begins to feature in the match-day squads more often. Having players who are dedicated to putting on their best performance will be key to the European race for United.

How will United set up against Spurs?

United face Tottenham in the league at 12:30 on Saturday. Carrick’s Reds will be looking to extend their three-game win streak, though Tottenham will prove to be a big test for the club. United have failed to beat Tottenham in their last eight meetings.

Mark Critchley spoke on the striker’s chances of starting against Spurs, saying, “he’s shown now that he does have that mentality where he has had a bit of a knock back.

“And I would like the goal on Sunday to be a lift off moment for him, but we’ve seen if it’s not then he can just come on and make an impact again and that’s really important.”

With Patrick Dorgu picking up an injury against Arsenal, it is likely that the United front line will see further rotations throughout the Spurs game. Mbeumo has proved his worth as a starting striker, though Sesko is likely to come on as an impact sub.

It is possible that Carrick may decide to start Sesko following his late winner, but this would likely involve taking out one of AmadMatheus Cunha or Mbeumo, who are all in top form. United have created a healthy competition amongst their forwards, pushing the club forward and delivering results.
