Southampton manager reveals Jason Wilcox message after Man United approach
Southampton manager Russell Martin has revealed a new message from Manchester United’s technical director target, Jason Wilcox, following their loss against Ipswich.
Southampton suffered a last-minute 3-2 loss against Ipswich Town in their huge Championship title race fixture on Monday evening.
Just minutes before the game, it was revealed that Manchester United were set to appoint Southampton’s James Wilcox as the club’s new technical director just nine months after he joined the south coast club.

Southampton manager Russell Martin, speaking after the game, has revealed a message that Wilcox sent him following the defeat.
“Give me more than 10 minutes to get over tonight’s disappointment, and I’ll have more for you,” Martin told reporters when asked about his reaction to the news.
“You know my feelings on Jason, I have just had a text saying how proud he was of the performance. Once I know more I’ll tell you.”
Wilcox will join Manchester United this summer, although Southampton has reacted ‘angrily’ at the manner in which the deal has taken place.
However, sources have told UtdDistrict that United have been respectful and followed the correct processes by making an official approach to Southampton.
It is also understood that The Reds have agreed to pay The Saints the equivalent of a full year of Wilcox’s salary, despite him having only been with them for nine months after leaving Manchester City at the end of the 2022/23 campaign. There is hope for a reasonable and amicable outcome for all parties.
Although Liverpool are said to be interested in Wilcox, the only club he is interested in joining the Old Trafford club.
