South American club can save Manchester United from awkward transfer situation after Ruben Amorim’s shock admission
Manchester United are still looking to get incomings and outgoings done in the final days of the January transfer window.
Ruben Amorim has faced challenges since taking over as head coach at Manchester United, leaving fans eager for reinforcements in the January transfer window to improve the situation.
Patrick Dorgu is being considered as a potential addition at left wing-back, while the club have already secured the signing of Arsenal youth prospect Ayden Heaven.
In terms of outgoings, there are several situations that could be resolved before the deadline, such as Marcus Rashford’s potential loan exit or Alejandro Garnacho’s future with Chelsea and Napoli chasing a deal.
However, things have gone rather quiet with Casemiro, who has started just once in United’s last 11 games.
Saudi Arabia appeared to be a potential solution to the problem earlier this month but that now looks like an unlikely prospect despite Cristiano Ronaldo pushing for the move.
However, like with any late transfer business, there could be a knock-on effect that helps United offload the 32-year-old midfielder.
Roma interested in potential Casemiro deal
According to a report from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma are considering Casemiro as a potential signing this month if Leandro Paredes leaves the Serie A club.
Paredes is reportedly tempted of the idea of returning to South America, with reported interest from Argentina side Boca Juniors.
Should that occur, Roma would be searching for a replacement with minimal time left in the market and Casemiro could be the solution for them.
It remains to be seen whether the Italian club could afford his fee or wages, but the report added that United would be open to a loan for the player despite their preference for a permanent exit.
Casemiro exit would save awkward situation at United
Right now, it doesn’t really matter if Casemiro leaves on loan or a permanent deal – he just needs to depart the club.
It makes little sense having the midfielder sitting on the bench each week, with Amorim making his stance on the former Real Madrid star as clear as day.
“He has to be the characteristics and then I have to choose the player with characteristics that I see the game,” Amorim explained when asked why Casemiro isn’t playing. “So it’s just that.
“I have to make some choices. I want to play a style of game that is sometimes different from other coaches and I have to choose based on that, that’s all.”
This is a player who’s value has already dropped significantly since United signed him for £70 million in the summer of 2022 – and it would only drop even lower if he spends the second half of the season watching on from the sidelines.
United do need to consider the depth of the squad, with any injuries to Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte or Toby Collyer being potentially costly.
But the Reds also need to consider the future and, like they have done with Antony, a potential loan for Casemiro could help save some value ahead of a summer sale.
It would also save an awkward situation where you have a five-time Champions League winner sitting on the bench all season long, which is no good for anyone.
