Sources: What Manchester United now think of Mathys Tel following Tottenham transfer agreement
Manchester United believe that Mathys Tel’s availability is the perfect market opportunity and are planning to formalise their interest before the transfer deadline.
Manchester United’s attacking woes have been a persistent issue this season, with the team managing just 28 goals in 23 Premier League matches.
Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled to provide a reliable goal threat, combining for only five league goals so far.
With the futures of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho uncertain ahead of the January deadline, United are exploring potential signings should either player depart.
Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel has emerged as a key target, with prior reports suggesting United would be interested in a loan move if Rashford or Garnacho were to leave.
Several top clubs have expressed interest in Tel after news of his desire to exit Bayern surfaced earlier this week.
It has been reported that Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a £50 million deal with the Bundesliga club over a transfer but the player is yet to make a decision on his future and it is claimed that he would prefer a move to United over Spurs.
Tel is perfect market opportunity for United
Sources have told UtdDistrict that United see Tel as the perfect market opportunity. Recruitment staff within the club have long kept tabs on the teenager.
United would like to bring Tel on loan, with an option to buy the player in the summer transfer window.
It is also understood that United plan to formalise their interest in the Bayern Munich forward before the transfer deadline, even without the sale of another attacker.
Reports elsewhere have suggested that United may that an upper hand in negotiations with the player as his main priority is potential game-time and Amorim’s squad is light in forward areas.
Bayern director confirms Tel wants to leave
Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl, confirmed that Tel wants to leave before the mid-season deadline this week and confirmed the widespread interest in the player.
“We spoke in December, and Mathys said he wanted to establish himself,” Eberl said.
“Now he says he wants to leave. There’s no bad blood. I can understand him. I’ve rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before.”
There are only several days until the window slams shut, but there is likely to be a lot of movement between now and the deadline.
