Sources: Bruno Fernandes plays through injury for Man United vs Newcastle before confirming transfer stance
Bruno Fernandes returned to the Manchester United lineup on Wednesday evening to help win 3-2 against Newcastle United in their final game of the season at Old Trafford.
Fernandes, 29, missed the last two games through injury, and United lost both of those fixtures, scoring no goals in either of them.
It was the first time since the Portuguese midfielder joined the club in 2020 that he had missed a game through injury.
He ended up assisting Rasmus Hojlund against The Magpies, which ended up being the decisive goal after Lewis Hall’s late goal to make the score 3-2.
Sources have told UtdDistrict that Fernandes was not fully fit going into the game but he wanted to make himself available for the final game at Old Trafford.
Almost two hours after the full-time whistle had blown, Fernandes was still outside of the stadium, signing autographs and taking selfies with fans.

There has been recent speculation about the United captain’s future at Old Trafford; however, the midfielder has clarified that he will only leave if the club do not want him – but he feels that new leaders INEOS want him to remain at United.
“I will be here until I’ve said, the club needs to want me,” Fernandes told Sky Sports after the game.
“I feel the club wants me to be part of the future, so as I said, I don’t want to be a player the club doesn’t want to have. If, for some reason, they don’t want to have me, I will go, but…”
Fernandes was then cut off by manager Ten Hag, who interrupted the Sky Sports interview to take his captain away shortly before he addressed the Old Trafford crowd with a lengthy speech.
