“Something is happening…” – Fabrizio Romano surprised by Man Utd update he received from agent
Fabrizio Romano has revealed a surprising update surrounding one Manchester United player after receiving a message from an agent.
Manchester United have had a difficult start under new head coach Ruben Amorim in his opening weeks at Old Trafford.
In his opening 10 games, the Portuguese boss has won five of them and the Reds currently sit 14th in the Premier League.
Despite these outcomes, Amorim is primarily focused on the team’s development within his preferred tactical system and there have been expected teething issues.
While some players have excelled under Amorim so far, others have struggled to adapt. It is evident that the 39-year-old will need reinforcements to fully implement his vision.
Given United’s current financial challenges, player sales will be necessary to generate the funds required for the signings in upcoming windows.
Romano reveals surprising Antony update
There are rumours surrounding the likes of Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen ahead of the mid-season window as their contracts are running out at the end of the season.
However, there will also now be more attention on the future of Antony after Fabrizio Romano received a surprising update from the Brazilian’s agent.
The Italian journalist spoke to Junior Pedroso, who has previously denied any exit rumours for his client Antony, but this time revealed that the player is open to leaving Old Trafford.
“An exclusive interview with the agent of Antony, Junior Pedroso, speaking to me for GiveMeSport, told me for the very first time ‘there is concrete interest from clubs approaching us for Antony’,” Romano told his YouTube channel.
“So something is happening, something is moving around Antony, there is interest from clubs.
“Then he added, ‘Man United, despite all the links and all the reports in the media, never approached us to say the player is for sale or the player can leave on loan’.
“So basically what the agent of Antony – in public, in an exclusive interview – is saying, is that Antony could be open to leaving Manchester United if Man United decide to do so.
“So if Man United will tell the agent of the player, ‘Okay, you can leave in January’, Antony is prepared to look for a new option, to look for a loan opportunity, to look for something new for the second half of the season and try a new experience.
“Otherwise Antony is going to be ready to fight again, challenge for the second half of the season at Manchester United and, of course, train at his best level possible.”
Rashford situation makes Antony exit risky
Many United fans would probably like to see the back of Antony after his poor performances at the club since signing in 2022.
However, there is also a concern right now about a lack of numbers, especially if Marcus Rashford departs next month.
Jadon Sancho left on loan to Chelsea in the summer and was not directly replaced. Joshua Zirkzee looks like he’s mainly a competitor to Rasmus Hojlund up front rather than behind as one of the no.10s.
While Antony has mostly played as a wingback under Amorim, he can also fill in those attacking positions and Rashford’s departure would see United light in that area.
A signing could be made to add to that depth but it may be difficult to find a replacement unless Rashford and Antony’s departures are finalised early in the window.
