“So worried” – Sporting boss makes concerning claim about two Manchester United targets
Sporting manager Rui Borges has admitted that he is “so worried” about Manchester United targets Viktor Gyokeres and Geovany Quenda.
Manchester United are looking ahead to the summer transfer window already, with it being key to strengthening Ruben Amorim’s squad at Old Trafford.
The Reds are going to need signings in several positions and links have been made to several Sporting players, Amorim’s former club.
United’s new head coach promised to not raid the Portuguese club in the January window and he kept to that promise – but he said nothing about the summer window.
Viktor Gyokeres and Geovany Quenda are two of the best players in Sporting’s ranks, and they have each been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
In fact, some reports have even suggested that a verbal agreement has been reached between the clubs for the transfer of Quenda in the summer.
Sporting boss makes concerning claim about United targets
Gyokeres and Quenda have been impressing for Sporting this season but are experiencing difficulties at the moment.
The Swedish striker has started only one of the last five games and Sporting’s manager Rui Borges has explained that both players are struggling with the busy schedule at the moment.
Speaking after their Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund, Borges told O Jogo: “We don’t need to be specific here, he [Gyokeres] had an injury like many others.
“He stopped and can’t play the full 90′, it’s to do with shortness of breath, his lungs. He lost his physical condition.
But the physical deficit isn’t just felt by Viktor. Quenda is too. In the league he’s not so demonstrative, we have more of the ball. But in this competition it’s felt more.
“I wish I could have him… He makes an impact, I have no doubt. But they’re so worried about Viktor that there are things that don’t make much sense to me. He stopped, recovered and is slowly coming back.”

One thing is for sure, that fixture congestion wouldn’t get any easier if either of the pair decide to join United in the summer, which is a slightly concerning prospect.
But the Reds are currently struggling to match the intensity levels needed in Amorim’s system and it seems like Gyokeres and Quenda are players the head coach trusts to match that intensity.
