“So many opportunities…” – Alan Shearer gives important advice to Manchester United flop after ‘humiliating’ moment

Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer has given some important advice to a Manchester United flop after he experienced a ‘humiliating’ moment last weekend.

Since joining Aston Villa on loan in September, Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho has been forced to wait patiently for his opportunity to impress.

After a fairly successful loan spell at Chelsea, Sancho might have expected a similar experience this season. However, things haven’t gone as planned, with the Englishman making just two starts so far.

Unai Emery’s side produced an impressive win against Manchester City last weekend but it was not the best day at the office for Sancho, who experienced something that no footballer ever wants.

After being brought on as a first-half substitute for the injured Emi Buendía, Sancho was then substituted off midway through the second half.

Shearer gives important advice to United flop Sancho

Sancho will not be happy with his current situation at Villa and ex-Premier League forward Alan Shearer has had his say on the United loanee’s struggles.

Shearer believes that Sancho’s only solution to his problems is to work hard and get his head down, things that he has been accused of not being able to do in the past.

“I don’t know what’s going on with Jadon Sancho in terms of his training or his life, I’m not party to that,” Shearer began when speaking with Betfair about the United loanee.

“But he’s got an opportunity at Villa now, and if it doesn’t work out here, people will look back and say, ‘Hang on, you’ve been given so many opportunities.’ You can only have so many.

“I guess it is humiliating when you’re put on as a sub and then taken off again. It hasn’t worked out yet for him, but there’s only one way around it and that is hard work.

“Get your head down, get your attitude right, and if you do that, things will turn around.”

Sancho has made United’s decision for them

Sancho’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, although the Reds have an option to extend his deal by another 12 months.

Reports in the summer suggested that United were considering this so that they could potentially receive a small fee for Sancho next summer rather than allowing him to leave on a free contract.

But clubs will only be willing to sign him if he shows his ability at Villa, and that is not happening right now. Even for a small fee, Sancho would still demand large wages.

It feels like Sancho’s form has probably made United’s mind up about triggering that extension, and there is no point risking anything with the winger. It is best for this saga to finally be over when the season ends.
