Following a return to Premier League action after an injury layoff, Ayden Heaven sent a hint about the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
In what is well and truly a make-or-break game, Manchester United will play Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Europa League on 21 May in Bilbao.
Following a dismal Premier League season that has seen United record both their lowest finish and lowest points scored, meaning a Europa League triumph is the only way to salvage something out of a disappointing 2024/25 campaign.
After several weeks on the sidelines, Ayden Heaven returned to the fold, making a substitute appearance in United’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea.
Heaven was signed from Arsenal in February, making an immediate impact at the back for United before his momentum was halted with a knee injury picked up in March.
Heaven drops major hint for Europa League final
Following his 18-minute cameo against Chelsea, Heaven hinted that he would be in the squad for the final in Bilbao.
Taking to Instagram, he posted a photo with the caption: “Felt so good to be back … onto the final in bilbao !”
The seeming confirmation of his spot in United’s travelling squad will be music to the ears of many of the United fan base who have called for the 19-year-old to start the game on Wednesday night.
With no update on whether Leny Yoro will be fit, many fans believe that Heaven should start the final owing to his promising performances before his injury.
There is also the risk however, that the pressure of the final may get the most of the 18-year-old.
United simply have to win the Europa League
It cannot be emphasised enough how much is riding on the Europa League final for Manchester United on Wednesday.
United’s future is heavily reliant on qualifying for the Champions League, and with United’s financial crisis going forward, the prize money from both winning the Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League is essential.
With United also needing a virtually complete overhaul of their squad in the summer, the allure of Champions League football is very strong for any prospective signings, especially experienced players.
Wednesday night could be the turning point for United’s future if they manage to lift the Europa League trophy in what has been a disaster of a 2024/25 campaign.
