“Small things…” – Ruben Amorim believes improvements from two players will “help in the future” at Manchester United

Ruben Amorim has experienced a very difficult start to life at Manchester United and will be looking ahead to his first full season in charge next term.

Manchester United decided to part ways with Erik ten Hag in October last year and Ruben Amorim came in as the replacement.

Hopes of an immediate turnaround were unrealistic and quickly thrown away. Amorim has just 13 wins in his first 32 matches in charge and United remain in the bottom half of the Premier League.

The games came thick and fast when he first arrived and more time on the training pitch was needed. He eventually got that but the improvements at this point have been small.

Perhaps the only real positive the Portuguese boss can take from this period is that it has allowed him to learn a lot about the issue at hand before the 2025/26 campaign.

Amorim believes two United players will help future

Amorim originally wanted to come in at the end of this season but that would have meant that he didn’t have the extra time to learn about United’s players and start implementing his changes.

The United boss believes that his early arrival has allowed him these things and also pointed out the improvements from young players like Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven.

He suggests that these are examples of small improvements that can help United improve in the future.

“This time has helped us to understand the players, the context, the club and to go to the next season with a different mindset,” he told Stadium Astro.

“If we didn’t have this time to work on and started in the beginning of [next] season, we could make some mistakes that could be harder to cope in the next season.

“And then you have to look at the small things, the way that Leny Yoro has improved. It’s really important for us. We have players like Ayden [Heaven] who came here from Arsenal and he’s playing.

“There are small things that are going to help us to be better in the future. I try to look at the big things and the small things.”

Amorim has to prove United painful start was worthwhile

Right now, every United fan can understand why Amorim wanted to wait until the end of the season to join the club.

He would have had an entire pre-season and new players entering the club, and probably another Portuguese title under his belt.

However, there is no denying that these six months have given him a much better idea of the task at hand, and better preparation of how to deal with it next season.

This was a manager who had barely had a scratch on his record in the dugout. At United so far, he’s been knocked around left, right and centre.

Some will argue that is something he needs to improve as a coach but there’s no doubt that he has to prove that it was worthwhile next season.
