Six Academy players to travel – Man Utd expected squad vs Brentford as “world’s best” starlet returns (Premier League)

Six Manchester United Academy players are expected to travel as Rúben Amorim selects his Premier League squad to face Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United return to Premier League duty on Sunday afternoon as they travel to face Brentford in West London.

Rúben Amorim’s side arrive off the back of a clinical 3-0 win away to Athletic Club in the Europa League semi-final first leg, with goals from Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes giving them a strong advantage.

Despite their impressive form in Europe, United remain without a win in their last five league matches, leaving their domestic campaign in a frustrating state.

With the return leg against Athletic Club just days away, Amorim is expected to rest several key players in London and give minutes to some of the club’s Academy prospects.

Amorim predicted to include six youngsters vs Brentford

With the club due to play out the second leg of their Europa League semi-final next Thursday, there is an expectation that the head coach could add a host of Academy players to his starting team next week.

One player likely to return is Chido Obi, who was omitted from the Europa League squad after the club chose not to register him for the competition earlier this year. With Højlund having started United’s last four games, there is a real chance the 17-year-old may be handed his first professional start.

Obi has received high praise from his teammates of late, with Leny Yoro recently stating he believes the teen striker can become “one of the world’s best” in his position in the future.

Meanwhile, Jaydan Kamason has been tipped to make his senior debut after Amorim admitted that Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu need rests – both wing-backs could be left in Manchester to recoup.

Leny Yoro may also be omitted from the travelling squad in order to be given time off after the centre-back has started 11 of the side’s last 12 fixtures across all competitions.

Harry Amass is also expected to remain in the squad and start as the left wing-back with Kamason on the right, while Sekou Kone and Bentido Mantato may find themselves selected on the bench.

Although Fernandes, Rasmus Højlund, and Harry Maguire may not start, they could still travel and find themselves on the bench as they will be able to provide leadership and guidance to youngsters who may start.

Matthijs de Ligt and Amad returned to action on Thursday evening and are expected to play a part in the squad, although Amorim will likely be cautious with the latter due to his ten-week layoff from injury.

After being overlooked for the starting line-up against Athletic Club in midweek, those such as Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount may be afforded starts.
