Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s stance on Erik ten Hag’s situation has been explained as Manchester United confirm two “outstanding” coaching additions to the club.

Erik ten Hag has faced a difficult beginning to the season, with Manchester United managing just three wins from their first 10 matches in all competitions.

Back-to-back 3-0 home defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League have increased the pressure on him.

Despite holding a meeting after the recent draw with Aston Villa, INEOS officials have chosen to keep the Dutch manager in his position for now.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s stance on Erik ten Hag

When asked about the managerial situation at Old Trafford several weeks ago, Sir Jim Ratcliffe explained that he is not the man making the decision about Ten Hag’s future.

“I don’t want to answer that question,” said the British billionaire. “I like Erik, I think he’s a very good coach but at the end of the day it’s not my call.”

However, reports have also suggested that he is of the opinion that a change might be the best decision. The Guardian have suggested that Ratcliffe wants Ten Hag out, yet the overall decision has been made to give the Dutchman more time.

Ratcliffe’s favourite replacement was Thomas Tuchel, according to multiple reports, however he has since been confirmed as the new England boss.

Ten Hag is set to take charge of the weekend’s game against Brentford but question marks will occur if the United manager doesn’t start to get a tune out of his team.

New coaching additions at youth level

While there are constant concerns over the situation at first-team level, United appear to be making positive strides at youth level.

The Under-18s have made a brilliant start to the new campaign, winning all five of their opening league fixtures.

Meanwhile, the Under-21s have had a mixed start to the PL2 season, with three wins and three losses, but have impressed in the EFL Cup against senior opposition.

Now, the club have confirmed new additions in Tom Curtis and Simon Wiles at the level below with the two coaches set to join the outh Development Phase at U13-U16s level.

Club reporter Harry Robinson wrote: “We’re delighted to have two best-in-class youth developers added to our outstanding staff and they will both be tasked with creating an environment that will support and challenge our young players to reach their full potential.”
