Sir Jim Ratcliffe has set targets for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United next season after a horrible start to life in charge at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s disastrous campaign came to a crushing conclusion on Wednesday evening as they were defeated by Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
Rúben Amorim’s side failed to make an impact in Bilbao, going the full 90 minutes without scoring against a Spurs team often criticised for their defensive weaknesses.
Hopes that United could still somehow clinch a spot in next season’s Champions League have now been dashed, leaving them without any European competition.
With that loss, the club also misses out on the additional revenue that comes with European qualification—an absence that will significantly affect their summer transfer budget.
Ratcliffe sets Amorim two targets
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the United board remain behind Amorim despite a torrid first six months at the club.
Now, according to a report from ManchesterWorld, the British billionaire has set two targets for the United manager to achieve next season.
It has claimed that Ratcliffe is expecting a top-six finish in the Premier League table, with United set to be without midweek football for the majority of the campaign.
Amorim will also judged on the style of football his team play, although the report claims that the league finish is more critical to Ratcliffe and the higher-ups.
United have no excuses
United will have very few excuses next season and Amorim will need to start well after what looks like will be a promising summer window.
But even if all of the areas of concern are not addressed, there still needs to be major improvements from the players and coaches in a campaign where they will be playing once a week.
Amorim was begging for extra time on the training pitch when he first arrived and that’s exactly what he’s going to get next season.
Whether he adapts more or moulds players into his system better, he has to find a tune out of certain individuals. Some players are hopeless and need to be sold, others can be much better than they showed this season and it’s his job to get the best out of them.
