Sir Jim Ratcliffe was questioned about the budget for the upcoming summer transfer window at Manchester United with Ruben Amorim in need of reinforcements.

Manchester United urgently need to strengthen their squad, as Ruben Amorim has faced significant challenges since taking charge.

The Reds find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League table, with a squad that has struggled to impress under Amorim’s leadership.

With the summer transfer window approaching, United must make key changes—both in terms of departures and new signings.

However, the club must also remain smart and strategic in their approach to recruitment due to the financial complications at Old Trafford currently.

Ratcliffe quizzed on United summer transfer budget

United’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been questioned about the potential budget that Amorim will receive once the next transfer window opens.

The British billionaire refused to go into numbers but suggested that the United head coach will be supported. He also suggested that player sales could be important to “supplement” the money available for transfers.

“There will be a budget for him and I’m not going to reveal that,” Ratcliffe explained in a detailed interview with the BBC this week.

“But obviously that budget changes depending upon who we may choose to sell because that will supplement the budget.”

United have several players, such as Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelöf, set to depart for free at the end of the season, but other departures must also be made.

Ratcliffe addresses Mainoo and Garnacho rumours

Ever since it has been explained that United need to sell in order to buy, rumours have flown around about potential exits for Academy stars Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

The two 2024 FA Cup final scorers came through the building at Carrington as youth players and are now consistent first-team players.

Yet, their potential sales have been a large topic of concern after reports suggested that they could be sold for financial reasons. Homegrown player sales represent pure profit on the balance books.

However, when the prospect was brought up to Amorim in the same interview, he shut down those suggestions and claimed that United would not be selling the pair due to any sort of financial struggles.

“No no,” he responded. “We won’t be selling players because of the state we are in financially.

“The club had got bloated so we reduced that and will finish it with a lean and efficient organisation. That’s how we will address the costs.

“The player decisions will all be focused on how we are going to improve performance. That’s all.”
