Sir Dave Brailsford was present at Old Trafford on Sunday for Manchester United’s stunning 4-3 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Brailsford, 60, has been at every United fixture since the club confirmed INEOS’ investment on Christmas Eve last year.

The INEOS chief and club director will be a key part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s overhaul at Old Trafford. He has already had meetings with countless members of staff within United.

Usually, whenever the TV cameras pan to the British cycling expert, he is offering his best poker face no matter the result. That was also going to slip in a game like that.

Amad Diallo’s 121st-minute winner to send United to Wembley was simply an insane finish to a crazy game of football. Erik ten Hag needed the victory, and Brailsford’s excitement at the result was detailed after the game.

MUTV host Mark Sullivan explained: “Sir Dave Brailsford is just walking by us there, punching the air in celebration.

“He is a very happy man, as are we all.”

Typically, Brailsford managed to keep his cool when the ITV cameras caught him midgame. He couldn’t help but let out those fistbumps behind the scenes.

You could describe it as a breath of fresh air for United supporters, who have been far too used to an ownership group who do not care about the club. Brailsford and Ratcliffe most certainly care.

United will face Coventry City in the semi-final of the FA Cup next month, and it is almost certain that Brailsford will be present.
