Sir Alex Ferguson responds to question about Erik ten Hag’s future, it’s the perfect answer
Sir Alex Ferguson was asked about Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United in the aftermath of the FA Cup final victory on Saturday.
Ferguson was expectedly in attendance at Wembley to watch the game against his former team’s City rivals.
United delivered their finest performance of the season, defeating Pep Guardiola’s men to lift their 13th FA Cup trophy.
The Reds seized control early, with Alejandro Garnacho opening the scoring after he pounced on a defensive mistake. The momentum stayed with United, and just before halftime, Kobbie Mainoo, who was later named Player of the Match, doubled their lead with a superb finish.
While Jeremy Doku scored a late goal for City to make things nervy, Erik ten Hag’s side held on and won their second trophy in two years under the Dutchman’s leadership.
Ten Hag has an unknown future at Old Trafford due to the difficulties he has faced throughout the campaign. It has been widely reported that INEOS have met with potential replacements yet a final decision has not been made.
Ferguson, the club’s most successful manager, was delighted at full-time with the victory. “Fantastic,” he described it.
As the Scotsman walked through the mixed zone at Wembley after the game, journalists asked Ferguson about Ten Hag’s future at the club.
In typical fashion, Sir Alex deflected the question and reminded the media that he would be unavailable for the job, “I’m retired, do you not know that?” he responded, with a laugh afterwards.
Expectedly, the Boss remained tight-lipped, and it is unlikely that fans truly know what will be happening until next week, with a full review expected to occur.
