Sir Alex Ferguson names ‘inspirational’ Man Utd star who can help Ruben Amorim turn things around

Sir Alex Ferguson has named one ‘inspirational’ Manchester United star who can help Ruben Amorim turn things around at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have been struggling ever since Sir Alex Ferguson decided to retire following his final Premier League title success in 2013.

While there have been moments of success since then, such as the 2024 FA Cup victory, the Reds have not won the Premier League or Champions League title in that time.

Several managers have come and gone, with Ruben Amorim the current man tasked with taking United back to the top. He has had a tough time since arriving in November last year.

United are currently sixth in the Premier League table this term. Performances remain inconsistent but there have been some promising additions at the club.

Ferguson names ‘inspirational’ United star

Ferguson has been speaking about his former club in a recent interview with Press Box PR and he suggested that it could be another decade before they lift the Premier League trophy again.

But the legendary manager also noted how recruitment is key to turning things around and he has been impressed by some of the club’s most recent additions.

In particular, Ferguson has praised new goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who has replaced André Onana and Altay Bayındır between the sticks at Old Trafford.

“I think the appointment of the goalkeeper [Lammens] has made a difference,” Ferguson explained.

“He’s young at 23, he’s quick, a big lad, good feet and hands, and I think that helps. I think they have needed that player. United have always had inspirational players over the years. I think that has helped.

“The other two, [Bryan] Mbeumo and [Matheus] Cunha, they look as if they will contribute to the recovery of our form.”

Lammens is exactly what many expected

Lammens received plenty of praise after his first few games this season, mainly because he was doing the simple things well.

Since then, the Belgian ‘keeper has gone slightly under the radar and there have been some mistakes which fans have not been overly impressed by.

But he came up clutch in the final minutes against Bournemouth to stop United from losing a historic record at Old Trafford.

At the moment, it seems like Lammens is exactly what many expected him to be. A solid goalkeeper in many regards but he is far from perfect and will still make mistakes.

But he has room to improve and backing from the club’s greatest-ever manager will not hurt his confidence as the shot-stopper aims to keep improving.
