Sir Alex Ferguson offered some words of wisdom to some of the youngsters at Manchester United this week.

Manchester United are having difficulties in the Premier League this season under new head coach Ruben Amorim.

However, it has been business as usual for the Academy, with the Under-18s having won all 11 of their opening league fixtures after winning the Treble last term.

Players like Chido Obi Martin and Sekou Kone have joined the setup at Carrington and several other young stars are excelling too.

They will all be hoping that they can eventually push their way into the thinking of Amorim in the first-team squad.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s advice to United youngsters

On Friday morning, United had their annual Academy celebration event where awards are given out to recognise the personal growth of the players within the club’s setup.

This year, Sir Alex Ferguson was in attendance for the event to provide advice to the young players coming through the Academy at United.

Club reporter Harry Robinson detailed some of the words of wisdom the legendary manager provided for United’s young stars.

Every player in the room would have been paying close attention. Ferguson said: “Sacrifice, work hard and practice. It’s the defeats that make you.”

Those 11 words hold extreme weight when coming from such a figure. With the amount of setbacks that occur in an Academy player’s progression, it is important to know that those moments are actually the most beneficial in the long-term.

The full event, and more of Ferguson’s speech, will be available in the club’s latest episode of ‘Lifeblood’ in the coming weeks.

Academy players at United to keep an eye on

There are many young players who will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of someone like Kobbie Mainoo.

Some of the brightest talent, such as Ethan Ennis and Ethan Wheatley, have headed out on loan. But there are a few players who may have an outside chance of pushing for a debut this term.

Obi Martin is perhaps the obvious answer, with the 17-year-old striker taking major strides in his development since joining the club in the summer.

Midfield duo Jack Moorhouse and Sekou Kone could also be aiming to push closer to the first-team before the end of the season, with the latter currently needing to improve his physical levels.

Otherwise, the likes of Sam Mather, Godwill Kukonki and Bendito Mantato are players to keep an eye on within the Academy setup.
