Shea Lacey was named in a Manchester United first-team squad for the very first time against Everton on Monday evening.
Manchester United were disappointing on Monday night as they lost 1-0 against Everton despite having an extra man for the majority of the game.
It was a first-half strike from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall which made the difference and ended United’s five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Ruben Amorim had to deal with some absences as both Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško were unavailable for the game.
He decided to promote Shea Lacey to the squad for the first time after the youngster’s impressive performances in training and with the Under-21s.
Lacey sends message after United vs Everton
Lacey, 18, is one of the most exciting prospects at Old Trafford and it felt like he would make his debut after Everton were reduced to 10 men on Monday.
Yet he was left as an unused substitute after United failed to take advantage. Many believed he should have came on ahead of someone like Diogo Dalot.
But even still, it was an important moment for Lacey to experience a matchday with the first-team and he will hopefully be getting an opportunity on the pitch soon.
The teenager took to Instagram after the game to reflect on his first involvement with the squad on a matchday. He uploaded a carousel of images, accompanied with a heart emoji.
Dan Gore, Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson were among the players to respond to Lacey’s post. Joshua Zirkzee and Dalot both liked it too.
Amorim makes Lacey decision clear
Even though Amorim decided against using Lacey against Everton, he has made it clear that he thinks the youngster can step up in the coming months.

Amad and Bryan Mbeumo are both set to leave for AFCON in a few weeks and United will need more options to play from that right side.
Lacey is the closest from the academy to break in and Jack Fletcher is just behind him. They will be eager to get their debuts in the coming weeks.
