Shea Lacey has appeared in the Manchester United squad for their last four Premier League games but is still yet to make his first-team debut.
Shea Lacey is regarded as one of Manchester United’s most exciting young talents and has enjoyed an impressive start to the season for both club and country.
Although injuries had slowed his development in the past, the 18-year-old winger is now fully fit and performing at a high level.
Earlier this season, his rise was acknowledged when he was invited to train with the England senior squad under Thomas Tuchel; a call-up that arrived before he had even appeared for the Under-20s.
More recently, Lacey has been named in United’s matchday squads against Everton, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Wolves.
Many supporters anticipated his debut after United went 4-1 ahead against Wolves, but the chance didn’t arrive on that occasion. Still, a first appearance for the senior side feels increasingly close.
Lacey receives encouraging debut hint from United first-team star
Following on from the game against Wolves, Lacey took to Instagram to post images of him at the Molineux Stadium.
The post was liked by first-team stars like Bruno Fernandes and Leny Yoro, while Diogo Dalot also left an interesting comment.
The Portuguese defender simply replied with an hourglass emoji, suggesting that Lacey’s debut for the first-team is simply a matter of time.
With players like Amad and Bryan Mbeumo heading off to AFCON later this month, it feels like Lacey’s opportunities will come during that period.
Wolves was missed opportunity for Lacey debut
It did feel like a missed opportunity for Amorim to not give Lacey his debut against Wolves after the Reds went 4-1 up late on in the game.
United are not often in that position where there is a three-goal gap and it would have been good for Lacey to get some minutes if he is really going to be trusted during AFCON.
Still, even without his debut, Lacey clearly has the trust of the first-team players and Dalot is expecting him to appear on the pitch soon.
