Manchester United completed the signing of Senne Lammens on deadline day to bolster their goalkeeping department.
For anyone who has watched Manchester United’s opening four games this season, it was evident that the goalkeepers were a huge problem.
Altay Bayındır made several mistakes in his Premier League appearances while André Onana had an awful performance as United lost in the Carabao Cup to Grimsby Town.
The decision was made to sign 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp but he is still very inexperienced at the highest level.
Despite this, there is excitement about the Belgian shot-stopper and his most exciting attribute is something United fans learned to love with David de Gea.
Lammens’ most exciting attribute is something De Gea mastered
Goalkeepers can use their hands, but they don’t always need to. When he was at United, De Gea seemed to make saving with your feet popular.
The Spaniard would almost always opt to use a leg, with a long barrier technique, if a shot was coming low and close to his body. It allowed him to make some ridiculous reaction saves.
When you watch some of the saves Lammens made at Antwerp last season, it is clear that he enjoys using a similar technique with his feet and that is a big positive for United.
The Athletic journalist Carl Anka has analysed the 23-year-old and said: “One thing that’s really impressed me is that he’s really good at the long barrier technique. De Gea was very good at this.
“One thing he has that Onana doesn’t have – and again, David de Gea used to have – you’re at the near post and shooting, he’ll just jut out a leg.”
Onana does not use his fett
Onana simply just doesn’t use his feet like De Gea or Lammens and it has impacted his shot-stopping ability in crucial situations.
Grismby’s first goal came from a volley towards the near post. The ball was moving fast but close to Onana’s feet. He decided to try and get down with a hand and was too slow.

If the Cameroon international had used his feet, he would have saved the shot easily. There’s been many occasions of this during his two years between the sticks.
De Gea seemed to make feet saves a thing at Old Trafford, and Lammens will hopefully be able to show how useful they can be again when he finds his way into United’s team.
