Senne Lammens has shown “very impressive” trait in Man Utd training, Ruben Amorim desperately needs it

Senne Lammens has been working hard in Manchester United training after joining the club on deadline day in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United needed to sign a goalkeeper in the summer and they eventually secured the services of promising shot-stopper Senne Lammens.

The 23-year-old has impressed at Royal Antwerp over the last year and has been scouted by United for some time, although he still needs to take a huge step up in order to excel in the Premier League.

André Onana has departed the club on loan but Altay Bayındır remains in the picture. The Turkish international started again against Manchester City and was a nervous wreck between the sticks.

Lammens was sitting on the bench but he will be hoping to get an opportunity soon, with Ruben Amorim desperately needing confidence in his goalkeeper.

Lammens has shown “very impressive” trait in United training

While Lammens is yet to make his debut for United, the young goalkeeper has been impressing behind the scenes at Carrington.

Veteran ‘keeper Tom Heaton has been speaking about Lammens this week and revealed that the Belgian has ‘very impressive’ goalkeeping fundamentals.

“It’s only been a few days training but he seems like a really good lad,” Heaton said on the Training Ground Guru podcast.

“He’s calm, but a strong personality. His goalkeeping fundamentals are very impressive and I think I said that to him after a couple of days training!

“Twenty-three years old coming into Manchester United, first few days training and he’s been very impressive so far. I really like his goalkeeping fundamentals.”

Lammens needs to be trusted

United do not need to reinvent the wheel between the sticks right now. That’s almost what they tried doing by replacing David de Gea with André Onana.

What Amorim’s team need right now is someone who can do the simple things well. Whether that’s not palming shots straight back into the danger area or not flapping at every cross.

Lammens does not really need to be incredible but he needs to be trusted. United defenders don’t know what’s coming next with Bayındır.

Having the fundamentals that Heaton mentions is a good start for the 23-year-old, and it would not be surprising if he was thrown in for his debut against Chelsea.
