Sekou Kone sends five-word message after “combative” Manchester United display, Godwill Kukonki responds
Sekou Kone produced one of his best performances so far for Manchester United’s Under-21s on Wednesday evening in a 5-0 win over Oldham.
Manchester United’s youngsters progressed to the knockout stages of the National League Cup after a five-star performance against the National League outfit.
Oldham were unable to keep up with Travis Binnion’s side, who scored five goals in the second half of the game to secure a comfortable victory.
Sekou Kone started the game and it was the fourth time he was in the starting XI for the Under-21s in less than two weeks.
United have started to integrate the summer signing into the team more in recent weeks after an interrupted first-half of the season.
The Mali youth international completed 90 minutes and produced a solid display. His marauding run from deep led to Chido Obi Martin’s goal.
Kone was able to showcase his forward-thinking ability and “combative” nature of play, impressing many fans who tuned in to the game.
It has been claimed that Kone could get an opportunity to impress first-team boss Ruben Amorim in the next pre-season and until then his job is to play as many minutes as possible in the youth teams.
Kone sends message after impressive United U21s display
After full-time against Oldham, Kone took to Instagram to react to the impressive result.
On Instagram, the 18-year-old posted several images of him during the game with the caption: “We never give up inshallah💪🙏🩸❤️”
Several of his Academy teammates were quick to respond, with Godwill Kukonki commenting with two fire emojis.
Kone and the rest of his teammates will have a short 10 day break until their next fixture against Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-21s on the 7 February.
Obi Martin also excelled for United’s U21s
Alongside Kone, it was Obi Martin who caught the eye for the Under-21s in that clash as the 17-year-old continues to make positive strides in his development.
When he joined in the summer from Arsenal, his goalscoring record was the eye-catching feature and that has continued over the course of the season so far.
However, Obi Martin has also shown that he can be very useful outside of the box, with impressive hold-up play and ball manipulation able to help him in those slightly deeper areas.
That is something he will need if he wants to eventually make the jump into United’s first-team and he proved that he can do it against senior opposition for the first time this week.
