Sekou Kone suffered an injury during Manchester United Under-21s defeat against Huddersfield Town first-team on Tuesday evening.

Kone, 18, was forced off with an injury after 42 minutes following a tackle on his shin, which came after a heavy touch from the Mali-born midfielder.

This injury followed closely after he had been booked in a similar situation, where he had to recover from a slight miscontrol in midfield.

Despite the unfortunate end to his first start for United’s academy, the teenager made a largely positive impact during the first half.

Kone had made two previous appearances, coming on as a substitute for the U19s and U21s in recent weeks, earning praise for his performances in those matches.

Having joined the club in the summer for a reported £1 million, there has been growing anticipation among fans to see what kind of player Kone will become.

However, with many fans watching the Huddersfield game, as it was the first televised with Kone involved, they would have been worried seeing him come off with an injury.

The 18-year-old was then spotted outside of the ground with a protective boot and crutches. Although, this is a regular precaution for injuries and does not necessarily mean that it will be a long-term issue.

Since then, Kone has taken to Instagram to break his silence after the injury scare.

The teenager posted two images of himself in action this last week, with the caption: “The risk of the job so we assume all the consequences it is God who decides everything ❤️🔥🙏”

Under-21s head coach Travis Binnion offered further praise for the midfielder after the game but also suggested that he should be allowed to develop at his own pace.

“He’s shown more than enough in the three games to suggest that with time and with work he’s got a real chance of being a really good player,” Binnion said. “But it’s a high potential under-21 player with first-team potential, I don’t think we can get too ahead of ourselves.

“He’s come off injured tonight so will have to see the severity of that. He needs to get fit, stay fit, get a run of training and games and then we’ll where he’s at.

“It’s just playing games, seeing pre-match and post-match sessions, analysis, translating them. You can see he can play the game and he’s got real ability, it’s just a run now and consistency and letting him learn and develop at his own rate.”
