Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Rúben Amorim reunion date set ahead of Leicester City vs Man United
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s reunion date with Ruben Amorim and Manchester United has been set with him becoming Leicester City boss.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to become Leicester City manager this week after the newly promoted Premier League club sacked Steve Cooper.
The Foxes currently sit 17th in the league standings and Van Nistelrooy will be tasked with getting them secure from relegation.
After spending a year of managing PSV Eindhoven’s first-team, Van Nistelrooy’s next role came as assistant manager to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United this summer.
He would shortly become the interim boss at Old Trafford after his fellow Dutchman was sacked and he enjoyed a positive spell.
With three wins and one draw, he boasts the best win percentage of any United manager – two of those victories came against Leicester City.
Van Nistelrooy made it no secret that he wanted to stay at the club under Amorim as an assistant coach but the 39-year-old already had his own team and the legendary striker once again parted ways with the club.
That successful interim spell, alongside his work in the Eredivisie, made him one of the favourites for a number of managerial vacancies in recent weeks and Leicester is the one that he has decided to take.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s reunion date set
After managing the team at United for league and Carabao Cup fixtures against Leicester this month, Van Nistelrooy’s reunion with those at the club will be long-awaited.
As thing stand, the Premier League clash between the two at the King Power Stadium is penciled in for Saturday, 15 March 2025 at 15:00 GMT.
That may be adjusted due potential television viewing, and the two could meet in the FA Cup this season, with the third-round draw set to take place this weekend.
Van Nistelrooy will be wished well by all of those connected to United barring when he faces his former club.
The last time United faced one of their former managers on the touchline was only last month, when Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce secured a 1-1 draw against Erik ten Hag’s team.
