68 touches, 5 shots – Ruud van Nistelrooy “delighted” for Manchester United star vs Leicester
Ruud van Nistelrooy has admitted he is “delighted” for one Manchester United star following the 5-2 victory over Leicester City.
Manchester United overwhelmed Leicester City with a 5-2 victory at Old Trafford, as Ruud van Nistelrooy guided the team into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in his first match as interim manager.
With the club poised to appoint Rúben Amorim as the new head coach, some wondered if the squad might be distracted.
However, United dispatched those concerns in style, thanks to goals from Casemiro (2), Bruno Fernandes (2), and Alejandro Garnacho, securing their place in the next round of the competition.
Although Altay Bayındır had some shaky moments, conceding twice, United maintained a dominant presence at home, reviving a sense of belief within the club.
Van Nistelrooy strategically rotated the squad, resting several players and managing minutes, with a careful eye on Sunday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea.
Ruud on Casemiro
Speaking to reporters after the game, Van Nistelrooy explained he was delighted for Casemiro against Leicester City, particularly after the criticism the Brazilian received earlier this season.
“I was delighted for Casemiro, the way he’s been training and helping the team, the club, it’s such an example,” Van Nistelrooy explained after full time.
“I’m delighted to have him around and going through difficult moments… He got a lot of criticism after the Liverpool game.”
Casemiro’s brace has helped him reestablised himself within the United squad. He has been fantastic in recent weeks and is gathering a good run of form ahead of Amorim’s pending appointment.
He was fantastic on Wednesday evening, completing 68 touches, having five shots, and completing 8/12 long balls from midfield, with 11 passes into the final third.
