Ruud van Nistelrooy sends Man United fans message after brilliant Alejandro Garnacho moment
Ruud van Nistelrooy has sent Manchester United fans a message after a brilliant moment with Alejandro Garnacho following victory against Fulham.
Van Nistelrooy came back to United this summer, joining forces with fellow Dutchman Rene Hake to help reshape Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff as duel assistant managers.
The former striker, who scored 150 goals during his five years at the club, has always been a fan-favourite at Old Trafford and was delighted to see the team win on his return to the stadium.
Joshua Zirkzee became the first Dutchman since Van Nistelrooy himself to score the opening goal of a Premier League season on Friday evening, securing the win against Fulham.
Van Nistelrooy took to Instagram on Sunday morning to react to the victory.
The assistant manager posted an image of himself in the Old Trafford dressing room with the caption, “Great team performance, +3 ❤️🤍🖤”
Rasmus Højlund and Diogo Dalot both liked the post from the Dutchman, who has reportedly been aiding both the offensive and defensive side of things in training ahead of the season.
However, after the Fulham victory, it wasn’t his expertise in goalscoring that was evident but the human element of coaching.
Alejandro Garnacho, who came off the bench alongside Zirkzee, had a mixed half despite providing the assist for the Dutchman’s winning goal.
The 20-year-old, who netted United’s only goal in the Community Shield last weekend, delivered a superb cross that Zirkzee converted, but he also missed an open goal in the final minutes of the match.
At full-time, Garnacho’s frustration was evident, and it didn’t go unnoticed that new assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy immediately approached the young Argentine.
The United legend, who scored 150 goals for the club during his playing days, appeared to offer Garnacho some advice and encouragement before the player headed down the tunnel.
