Ruud van Nistelrooy leaves Chelsea legend sweating as he ‘applies’ for English club
Ruud van Nistelrooy has left a Chelsea legend sweating as he applies for the Coventry City job just days after leaving Manchester United.
Ruud van Nistelrooy left Manchester United earlier this week, just five months into his role, following the appointment of Rúben Amorim as the club’s new head coach.
The former Dutch striker had joined United in July as part of a complete restructuring of Erik ten Hag‘s coaching team but faced uncertainty after Ten Hag’s dismissal last month.

During his brief stint, Van Nistelrooy led United’s first team in four matches, securing two wins against Leicester City and a victory over PAOK, along with a Premier League draw against Chelsea.
However, with Amorim now at the helm, the club announced on Monday that Van Nistelrooy, along with three other members of the backroom staff, would be departing.
Van Nistelrooy back in action
However, just days after Van Nistelrooy departed Carrington, it seems as if he is on the job hunt again, having applied for a job with Coventry City.
According to SamCReports, Van Nistelrooy has applied to become Coventry’s new manager after the club who sit 17th in the Championship after sacking Mark Robins earlier this month.
Van Nistelrooy will be leaving Chelsea legend Frank Lampard sweating with this move, as multiple reports have stated that Lampard is under consideration for the job himself.
According to the Daily Mail, Lampard is set to hold talks in the coming days regarding the Coventry positon, but Van Nistelrooy putting his name in the ring will no doubt throw complications into Lampard’s chances.
Van Nistelrooy’s farewell message
On Friday afternoon, Van Nistelrooy uploaded a heartfelt farewell message to United fans and players, explaining that he wishes all the best for the side under the leadership of Amorim.
“To everyone at Manchester United Football Club, in particular the backroom staff, the players and the fans,” he stated on social media.
“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible efforts and support. It has been a privilege and honour to represent the club as a player, coach and manager, and I will always cherish the memories we have shared together.
“@ManUtd will always have a special place in my heart, and I hope there are many more glory days at Old Trafford very soon – not only because I want the club to do well, but because you all deserve it!
“All the best and take care, Ruud.”
