Ruud van Nistelrooy was furious after Leicester City were knocked out of the FA Cup against Manchester United through an offside last-minute winner.
Manchester United scraped a 2-1 victory over Leicester City in their FA Cup fourth-round encounter at Old Trafford on Friday evening.
Ruben Amorim’s men delivered a lacklustre first-half performance and rightfully found themselves trailing 1-0 at the break.
The United boss introduced Alejandro Garnacho at half-time, and the Argentine winger injected much-needed pace and intensity into the match.
The Argentine’s impact was shown as he played a key role in setting up Joshua Zirkzee’s equalizer. While United showed some improvement, their play remained somewhat sloppy.
In the dying moments of the game, Harry Maguire headed in the winning goal from a set-piece. Replays showed that the defender was clearly offside, but with no VAR in use, the goal stood.
Van Nistelrooy delivers ruthless message after United defeat
Ruud van Nistelrooy was understandably frustrated at full-time and he was asked about conceding a goal in ‘Fergie Time’ at his former club.
“We are not defeated in Fergie time, we are defeated in offside time,” the ex-United player and coach responded.
The Dutchman was then asked about there being no VAR in use at this stage of the competition but he believed it was a simple decision that the linesman could make in real time.
“This wasn’t necessary,” he added. “VAR you have in a couple centimetres, a couple of inches, this was half a metre, clear in line.
“That was a hard one to take because the team deserves to draw in the end. Then extra time, stay in the game you, never know what happens.”
United fans would probably be poking some fun if that was any other manager but you feel sorry for Van Nistelrooy, a club legend who is struggling in his managerial role at the King Power Stadium.
It also was a poor performance from United, who only woke up in the latter stages of the game and concerns about their form remains.
