Russell Martin sends fiery warning to Manchester United over £21m Tyler Dibling rumours
Southampton boss Russell Martin has sent a fiery warning to Manchester United over rumours surrounding a potential £21 million deal for Tyler Dibling.
Tyler Dibling stood out against Manchester United earlier in the season despite Southampton eventually losing the game.
He won a penalty which André Onana went on to save and the Reds eventually took control of proceedings afterwards.
Dibling’s performance would have only strengthened United’s interest in the teenager, with various reports detailing the Old Trafford club’s intent to sign him next summer.
The most recent rumours have claimed that an offer of £21 million could be enough to take Dibling from a club who are destined for Premier League relegation this season.
However, Saints boss Russell Martin has sent a fiery message to those at Old Trafford that they will need to pay much more to pry the talented winger away from St Mary’s Stadium.
Martin also mentioned that there is a contract extension on the table for the 18-year-old but his agent is not impressed with what is on offer.
“I was told some rumours about Man United, one was a bid of £21 million. I’m not sure you’ll get his left foot for that”, Martin said in his latest press conference.
“We have offered him a contract, a really good contract for someone his age. At the minute, I don’t think his agent agrees, so that’s where we’re at.
“I think Tyler wants it done, I think Tyler’s parents want it done, so we’ll see how long that takes. There is an option. We can extend. I don’t think we want to do that – we want to reward Tyler for his performances.
“I’ve spoken to Tyler’s mum and dad about it, I’ve spoken to Tyler, but then I’m not involved in any of the negotiations – that’s down to Phil [Parsons, chief executive] and the gang, the owners and Tyler’s agent – and that’s where it gets tricky.”
Dibling has been one of the shining lights for Southampton so far this season. He has made 16 appearances after breaking through into the first-team last term.
United’s new approach of signing up-and-coming stars makes the England youth international an extremely attractive prospect and it would be no surprise if they pursue a move in the summer.
