Ruben Amorim’s stance on Real Madrid’s interest in Diogo Dalot revealed as £42m response made
Ruben Amorim’s stance on Real Madrid’s interest in Diogo Dalot is clear as Manchester United send a £42 million response.
Manchester United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim has now had three games in charge of the club, with two wins and one draw.
His next test comes against Arsenal in the Premier League, but he will be focusing on learning more about his own squad in the coming days.
The 39-year-old has already picked up some key things about his players in recent weeks and will want to have a better assessment of them as he plans ahead for next season.
Transfers will be made to further improve the squad and some players could leave if they don’t fit into the new boss’ plans.
Real Madrid interested in Diogo Dalot
According to a new report from Relevo, Real Madrid are interested in United defender Diogo Dalot.
It was explained that while Trent Alexander-Arnold is their number one choice, Dalot is a clear player of interest and they had already made contact with his representatives while Erik ten Hag was still in charge at Old Trafford.
United are unwilling to negotiate on any offer lower than £42 million, the report adds. Yet, that may even be on the lower side for a player who has four years remaining on his deal and is fresh off the back of winning the club’s Player of the Year award.
Dalot made 50 appearances for United last season and was a consistent performer in an inconsistent team. His club form has also earned him a consistent starting place in the Portugal team.
Amorim’s stance on Diogo Dalot
Amorim has been assessing his players at Old Trafford and Dalot has started as the left-wingback in two of his first three games.
While that is not likely to be his long-term role, Amorim has already explained that he thinks the Portuguese defender will be a key figure for him going forward.
“He is very powerful, we have to rotate him sometimes because he always looks fresh, but he is not like that, he is not a machine,” he said when asked about how the 26-year-old can fit in his system.
“I think he plays better on the right and we will manage to put him on the right. He is a very good player, very powerful that can play both sides and nowadays, a player that can play on both sides is perfect because you can put him in different positions.
“I expect the same as last year that you saw. A great player that can help the team and he is really a team player, you can feel it in every way, he leads the game and he is very important for us.”
It is quite clear that Amorim is fond of the 25-year-old and would like to keep him at Old Trafford. He has consistently mentioned the need for a better phyical base in the team and Dalot excels in that aspect.
Before he was rested against Bode/Glimt, Dalot had started 45 games in a row for the Reds.
