Manchester United have once again been linked with a potential move for Harry Kane in recent days with the English striker reportedly keen on a return to the Premier League.
Manchester United were eager to sign Harry Kane when it became clear that he would be leaving Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023.
But after difficulties in negotiations with Daniel Levy, the Reds opted to look elsewhere and instead signed Rasmus Højlund, who has since moved on loan to Napoli for the 2025/26 campaign.
Benjamin Šeško has been signed this summer although there are still some doubts whether he can shoulder the burden of being United’s main no.9.
Meanwhile, Kane has been enjoying life in Germany, where he has scored 98 goals in 103 appearances for Bayern Munich in the last two years.
Amorim’s stance on United targeting Kane
Even though United have just splashed the cash on Šeško, reports this week claim that they would not be afraid to make a move for Kane next summer, with the England all-time top goalscorer having a £57 million release clause at Bayern.
Ruben Amorim’s stance on this deal is clear through how he felt United should address the striker position in the summer window.
Despite rating Šeško highly, Amorim initially preferred the potential signing of Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa, mainly due to his experience and know-how of Premier League football.
Those are both boxes that Kane ticks, even more-so than Watkins, and even though the ex-Spurs star is not the exact kind of profile Amorim likes as a no.9, he would likely be a huge advocate of the club making a move for him next summer.
If the Reds do decide to make a move, Spurs will have the right to match any bids made for Kane but United will hope to convince the 32-year-old to finally test himself at Old Trafford.
INEOS would have to change strategy
It remains to be seen whether United would actually have a chance at signing Kane this coming summer but it does feel realistic that he wants to return to the Premier League.
The move to Germany was done for one simple reason: To win silverware. Now he has done that, Kane will be eyeing Alan Shearer’s Premier League record.
The prospect of someone like Šeško being able to learn under one of the best goalscorers in Europe is a nice idea and something Højlund should have had when he first joined.

While Amorim would likely be a fan of the move, INEOS would be changing their strategy through this signing. They still haven’t signed anyone over the age of 26 since taking charge at Old Trafford.
Kane will be 33 by the time the next summer window comes around, and it would be a signing that shows a ‘win now’ mentality that those at Old Trafford are avoiding at the moment.
