Rúben Amorim’s perfect right wing-back has just opened the door to a Manchester United move this summer.
Manchester United are preparing for a major summer rebuild after a disappointing season and the absence of European football.
Rúben Amorim has already brought in Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, and remains keen on adding Bryan Mbeumo to his squad. While more signings are expected, they will depend heavily on player departures.
The club are planning to offload several players, including Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho, though finding buyers has proven challenging so far.
Rashford is reportedly nearing a move to Barcelona, Sancho is believed to have agreed on personal terms with Juventus, and Antony is eager to return to Real Betis.
Amorim’s transfer plans will take multiple transfer windows
Switching from the 4-3-3 formation that Erik ten Hag employed before his dismissal to Amorim’s 3-4-3 has been a shock to the system at the club in every way imaginable.
For the fans, it has been a challenge to adapt to, while the nature of the system has also exposed many weaknesses in the squad that will need strengthening. However, with a lack of abundant funding this summer, making these changes will take several summers.
Amorim is focused on strengthening his front line and midfield this summer, but several other areas require increased support. Many agree that a new goalkeeper will eventually need to be signed to replace André Onana, while concerns have been raised about the wing-back positions.
Although Amad and Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu worked well as a wing-back pairing in the final game of the season against Aston Villa, there have been calls to potentially look at signing a new right wing-back this summer to compete with Amad while new No. 2 Diogo Dalot is trialled as a right centre-back.
Munoz confirms he is available for a summer transfer
There are a few teams in the Premier League that employ a similar structure to Amorim’s idea at Old Trafford, with Wolverhampton Wanderers being one, so signing Cunha for the left attacking position was a no-brainer.
Similarly, Crystal Palace employ a 3-4-3 formation under Oliver Glasner, and many have pointed to Daniel Munoz as a perfect addition to United’s squad as a right wing-back.
Munoz was spectacular against Manchester City in the FA Cup final and has recently admitted that he would love to take the next step by signing for a big club, opening the door for United to move in should they wish.
“I want to play for the best teams in the world, but they haven’t spoken to me directly,” he told Win Sports TV.
“I dream and work every day to achieve it, and I hope it can happen as soon as possible. I hope it’s in this window, but if not, I’m very happy at Crystal Palace.”
United’s choice of heading for a new front three and midfield as their main priorities this summer is a sensible one, as it provides the most significant set of upgrades. However, if there’s funding and time to try to tempt Munoz away from Seulhirst Park later in the window, it’s an option that must be considered.
