When the signings of Mbeumo and Cunha were announced, many were pleased to see that the club had acquired players with Premier League experience. Speaking with reporters on Friday afternoon, Amorim admitted that buying from other English sides is a safer, but more expensive route.
“You can see that every player you want to be in the Premier League is really expensive,” the head coach said. “But if you look at our moments last year, you want to take the less risky move.
“It’s really important to have top players in our team. If you look at Bryan and Cunha, they have done this for years. It was something we looked at, players in the Premier League.”
With this in mind, some also found it odd that the club opted against signing other Premier League players for the other two positions they reinforced, striker and goalkeeper.
Although the club brought in Šeško, a highly-rated young forward, it was reported that Amorim was keen on Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, while Senne Lammens was signed over Emiliano Martínez, also from Villa, in goal.
Kane can be the answer to United’s struggles
Since United opted for Šeško over Watkins, neither player has yet to open their account this season, although the former has extra leeway after a limited pre-season and minutes so far.
However, another striker with plenty of Premier League experience available is Harry Kane, who has scored 13 goals in seven appearances this season and 98 goals in 103 matches for the German side since joining from Tottenham Hotspur for £80 million in 2023.
United have been linked with a possible move for the 32-year-old in 2026, with the English striker’s contract containing a £54 million release clause that can be activated in January.
There has been considerable discussion in the last few years surrounding Old Trafford, suggesting that they continue to seek young striker talent without an older presence to guide them.
Still, in the case of Kane, he could be the perfect man to guarantee goals at Old Trafford and help Šeško improve his game across the next few seasons.
With Amorim openly admitting that he understands the unique value of Premier League experience, signing the man with 213 Premier League goals to his name, bettered only by Alan Shearer’s 260, there is no doubt he would welcome the addition should United push for the move.
