Ruben Amorim’s latest Man United U-turn speaks volumes about Leny Yoro’s biggest strength
Ruben Amorim has already made a U-turn in relation to Leny Yoro which speaks volumes about the Manchester United starlet.
Leny Yoro suffered an unfortunate injury setback shortly after moving to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
The defender fractured the metatarsal bone in his left foot during a pre-season friendly and has been out of action since then.
United beat Real Madrid to the signing of the teenager, who is viewed as one of the best defensive talents in Europe.
According to a new report from the Manchester Evening News, Yoro was originally set to play for United’s under-21s side earlier this week.
The report detailed that the French centre-back was due to start in the National League Cup game against Altrincham. United won 4-0 with a hat-trick from Ethan Ennis.
It would have been viewed as important minutes in his rehabilitation before being reintroduced to first-team football.
However, after training with Amorim at the beginning of this week, the teenager was withdrawn from the U21s squad.
It was also stated that Yoro is expected to have a ‘key role’ under the new head coach in his new-look 3-4-3 formation and could make his debut this weekend.
United face Ipswich Town away from home in their first game under Amorim’s leadership, and he’s already started using his three-at-the-back formation in training at Carrington.
It speaks volumes about Yoro that Amorim made the decision for him to miss the U21s game. The head coach clearly rates him highly and is debating to start him on Sunday.
He suits the back three better than any other United defender and will help the Reds play the desired style.
But it also shows how strong Yoro has been in his recovery that he is already in contention to start games. Those behind the scenes at Carrington have praised the defender’s attitude during his rehab.
At just 19 years of age, some might have wondered whether Yoro has the mental strength to deal with a setback like this, but he has massively impressed those around United.
He will be thankful when he finally makes his debut for the club, and while it has been disappointing that he’s been injured, he’s been able to showcase his strengths away from the pitch.
