Ruben Amorim is continuing to keep faith in one Manchester United star and that has become even more obvious after his selection decision for the upcoming clash with Nottingham Forest.
Manchester United have struggled this season under Ruben Amorim and one of the main issues has come in the goalscoring department.
The Reds have found it difficult to convert chances into goals, with several players going through long droughts in front of goal.
Rasmus Højlund had gone 22 games without scoring before he netted a fine goal against Leicester City before the international break. He then scored for Denmark against Portugal.
There are question marks surrounding the 22-year-old centre-forward but Amorim has been putting trust in him even during his difficult moments.
Amorim’s faith in Højlund becoming obvious after Forest selection decision
Despite struggling for form in front of goal in recent months, Højlund has started the majority of games under Amorim’s leadership. Out of 28 games so far, the Dane has been in the lineup 20 times.
He is also expected to start against Forest on Tuesday night, where he will be looking to build on his last few performances.
“It’s a shame we are going to stop for [the] national teams, but he will return with confidence,” Amorim said of Højlund before the break.
The United boss might have felt pressurised to take Højlund out of the firing line more often, especially with a exciting and hungry Chido Obi as a wildcard option to bring in.
However, Amorim has confirmed that Obi will not be with the first-team against Forest as he plays for the Under-18s in their FA Youth Cup semi-final against Aston Villa on Monday evening.
Højlund has to repay Amorim’s faith
While that decision is so Obi can get minutes in his legs rather than being on the bench for the first-team, it is another small example which showcases Amorim’s trust in Højlund.
United are likely going to sign a striker in the summer which will mean Højlund does not start as often as he has been doing this term.

However, Amorim clearly believes that the striker can develop into a better player and has regularly cited the lack of service as a reason for his struggles.
When that improves, Højlund will have to repay the Portuguese boss for his trust.
