Manchester United are planning to make at least two January transfer window signings for Ruben Amorim if Alejandro Garnacho leaves the club.

Ruben Amorim has had a difficult start to life as Manchester United head coach as he attempts to implement a new style at Old Trafford.

Mixed results and performances so far have highlighted the need for additions in key positions within Amorim’s setup.

Wingback is the main position that needs strengthening and United have identified 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu as an option.

Reports have claimed that the Reds have submitted an offer of around £25 million to Lecce for the exciting Dorgu, who could be used on either flank.

Meanwhile, with the potential sale of Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea this month, a replacement must be brought in for Amorim’s squad.

Should the club receive upwards of £60 million for the Argentine, they would be able to have more flexibility in who they target to replace him.

Wolves’ star Matheus Cunha could leave the midlands club this month and is reportedly available for around £60 million too, and would fit into the system Amorim wants United to play.

Amorim’s best United team with two January signings

While getting just two signings into the club will not fix all of the problems at Old Trafford, Amorim would be able to field a stronger team with better options in crucial positions.

In the backline, despite the defensive qualities of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, it should be Noussair Mazraoui who plays alongside Lisandro Martínez and Harry Maguire.

Mazraoui’s ball-playing abilities were very useful when he was stationed in the back three in the early matches under Amorim and he should return to that position.

Dorgu would come straight back into the team as the left wingback, a position which has caused a lot of problems for United under Amorim.

On the opposite side, this would likely change depending on the opposition, but Amorim will probably want at least one natural defender on the flanks and so Diogo Dalot would keep his place in the team.

The midfield is also an area which can change depending on the game but Kobbie Mainoo would start most of the time and Bruno Fernandes could be moved deeper to make space for Cunha in the attacking line.

The current Wolves star would compliment the attack on the left side, while in-form Amad plays on the right. In front of them could be either Rasmus Højlund or Joshua Zirkzee, but at the moment it feels like the Dutchman is in the better form.

United still need to make improvements at the end of the season in terms of personnel, but these two signings would certainly address some of the issues in the squad at the moment.

It remains to be seen whether Cunha will be the preferred option to sign if Garnacho leaves, but the club need to chose someone who offers the same guarantees in the final third that the Brazilian does.
