Ruben Amorim was left ‘furious’ with Man United star after key moment vs Arsenal
Ruben Amorim was left ‘furious’ with one Manchester United star after a key moment during the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal.
Rúben Amorim endured his first loss as Manchester United head coach, as the team was defeated 2-0 by Arsenal on Wednesday night at the Emirates Stadium.
United prioritised defensive solidity, aiming to stifle Arsenal’s attack with a disciplined approach.
The strategy worked well in the first half, frustrating Mikel Arteta’s side, but it also limited United’s chances to threaten offensively.
Arsenal eventually broke through in the second half, showcasing their physical prowess with two goals from corners.
Despite the defeat, there were encouraging signs for United, including a commanding performance from Harry Maguire and a promising debut for Leny Yoro.
Even so, Amorim faces a demanding task in addressing key areas for improvement in the weeks to come.
Amorim furious with United star
Despite going behind early in the second half, United were always in a game with only one goal being in it. But once the second went in, it seemed the game was done.
Arsenal picked up their level in open play but still only looked to serious damage United’s defence through corners.
That made it frustrating when Marcus Rashford, who came off the bench in the second half, needlessly gave away a corner when trying to flick the ball up to clear it.
He was stuck in the corner and slipped when attempting the clearance, meaning that the ball ran out of play for the set-piece which Arsenal scored their second goal from.
“What was Rashford doing by conceding that daft corner?” Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst posted on X/Twitter. “Amorim looked furious at that.”
You can’t blame the Portuguese boss for being frustrated since his United side did relatively well outside of those corners, but they simply gave too many away with Arsenal having 13 corners throughout.
Rashford scored three goals in his first three games under Amorim, but will be unhappy with his cameo off the bench against Arsenal.
He will be hoping to redeem himself when United host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
