Rúben Amorim told what to do with Manchester United January arrival by League One boss
Manchester United have already made several decisions during the January transfer window, including recalling several players from their loan spells.
Ruben Amorim is hoping that Manchester United will be able to make some signings for his first-team squad this month.
The United boss has had a difficult time in charge so far, with just four wins in 12 games and it is clear that reinforcements are needed.
Left-wingback is a clear priority while another striker would also be extremely useful, however, sales are also needed to fund any moves.
United will also be active in the loan market for the youngsters, with several players, including Dan Gore, potentially heading out on loan.
Some young Reds have also returned from spells away from the club. This week it has been confirmed that goalkeepers Elyh Harrison, Tom Myles and Tom Wooster had all been recalled from their respective loans.
On Thursday, it was also announced that Joe Hugill has returned from his loan spell at Wigan Athletic. The young striker moved there at the beginning of the season but has not received much game-time lately.
Wigan boss speaks on Hugill exit
Wigan boss Shaun Maloney spoke on the decision and confirmed that it was a ‘budget-related’ one, with his preference being to keep Hugill at the club for the rest of the season.
The 41-year-old understands that Hugill needs game-time, however, and claims that he ‘really enjoyed working with’ the United youngster.
“It’s a budget-related decision really,” said Maloney, as quoted by Wigan Today. “I think he’s done really well here, I’ve really enjoyed working with Joe, and I think there’s even more development in Joe.
“In fairness to him, over the last 10 games or so, Dale [Taylor] has been in really, really good form, and I know Joe needs to play games. He was always going to leave us if Dale kept his place, which he did… although I still would have liked to have kept him.
“I know we’ve signed Will Goodwin, but Joe is a very different profile to him, but we can only carry two ‘9s’ at the moment.
“So that’s the decision…it’s nothing to do with performance, or how he trained…we can only carry two ‘9s’ and that’s the decision.”
Hugill needs another loan move
Amorim does need extra reinforcements up front but, as Maloney has explained, Hugill needs game-time and another loan makes the most sense for him.
He is 21 years of age and needs to play first-team football regularly. United may also be eyeing any potential permanent transfers for young players.
Hugill could well commend a fee from Championship clubs, which would be seen as pure profit in United’s books.
Other young United players such as Toby Collyer, could also be heading out on loan, or a potential permanent deal depending on offers.
